Zip and unzip files with this great tool
WinZip has become the file-compression tool of choice for many Windows users, and it's easy to see why. Using your choice of a Wizard or Classic interface (both of which are easy to operate), WinZip can create industry-standard .zip files, plus open gzip, UUENCODE, XXENCODE, BinHex, and MIME archives without any additional utilities. It also interfaces with external programs to handle .arc .arj, and .lzh files. WinZip features tight integration with the Windows 9x shell, several ways to create archives, plus support for many virus scanners. A helpful Check Out feature temporarily opens an archive so that the program within can be installed. You can keep a list of favorite folders, plus easily view files through an internal ASCII text viewer or the file's associated application. Download and open archives from the Internet with one click via Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. All files that have been downloaded are automatically copied from the browser's cache directory to a folder of your choice, which ensures that a permanent copy of the download is saved on your system, even if the downloaded file is automatically deleted by the browser. We especially like the Explorer context menu "Extract to folder" entry, which creates a folder for the archive's contents in the same directory that holds the archive. What's new in version 7.0? WinZip adds support for Microsoft's CAB (cabinet) format, including most self-extracting .cab files; several interface enhancements, including a configurable toolbar and sizable, sortable, and selectable columns; optional support for the Internet Explorer 4.0-style "one-click open" interface; and the ability to print the information in the main WinZip window. Other enhancements include support for command-line zipping and unzipping through a downloadable plug-in, an improved tabbed configuration window, zip comment support, and the ability to create .zip files that span multiple removable disks with the included personal edition of the WinZip Self Extractor. Whether you're an existing WinZip user or you've been looking for an easy way to handle archives in Windows 95, 98 or NT, this is a "must download." A 16-bit version is also available.
